This event will be a colourful and resistant demonstration of solidarity for everyone with or without papers. With an international samba band present, we also hope it to be an artistic and musical demonstration.
At 13.00 the demonstration (officially authorised) will start at the 'Parc Maxmilien', opposite to the 'l'Office des Etrangers', passing in front of 'Le Petit Château', the centre of town and the stock market, it will finish in full circle, at the 'Parc Maxmilien'. Here there will be concerts, storytellers and performances (17h – 20h)
The event will close the No Border Camp, which has taken place over the past week in different locations across Brussels and on the terrains of 'Tour & Taxis'. This camp brought together activists from all over the world, holding all kinds of workshops, debates, concerts, activities and meetings throughout.
“We demand an end to the border regime which criminalises those who, in search of a better life, decide to try their luck in Europe” said one activist. “Over 700 people die each year trying to cross the European borders. Currently more than 32,000 people are imprisoned in 250 centers all over the EU without even a trial.”
Globalization means that companies can move all over the world in search of profit, while controls over the movement of people continue to get tougher. This migration policy only maintains and perpetuates the black market of which migrants are the first victims. This system divides us and categorises us into "citizens" and "foreigners", "legal" and "illegal" and "good" and "bad" migrants.
The abolition of the borders is a utopian dream? « Yes. In the same way that the abolition of slavery was at one point. We want to create a world where one day borders no longer exist. This begins on Saturday, when we reunite in the streets of Brussels » concluded one activist.
