Youth for Human Rights makes an impact at the
Back to School Event

Tampa, FL – August 16, 2014 - The Youth for Human Rights (YHR) Florida group was hard at work at the Back to School Event in Tampa on Saturday, August 16th—an event hundreds of parents and students attended to get prepared for the upcoming school year.

President of the YHR Florida group, Karla Dana, hosted a booth at the event with educational materials from YHR to pass out and a petition aimed at implementing human rights education in Florida schools. It was a successful endeavor with two hundred and ninety-five “What Are Human Rights ?” booklets distributed to parents and students of all ages and walks of life, and no less than one hundred and sixty-two petition signatures obtained. Adding to the 11,000 existing signatures, closing in on their 15,000 target to present the petition to Tallahassee legislators.

“With an upsurge of 1.5 million children trafficked worldwide each year you can see we have a Human Rights problem. The time is now to educate children in their Rights,” said Karla Dana, President of YHR Florida.

“Those children are ready to go back to school empowered with knowledge of their Rights,” said Karla Dana, President of YHR Florida

According to reports from Human Rights organizations, 171 million children under the age of 15 in 160 countries work in hazardous conditions.

Annually YHR distributes 300,000 of the “What are Human Rights ?” booklets in over 40 countries, educating millions of youth about their human rights, inspiring them to become valuable advocates for tolerance and peace.

Dana said, “We are carrying forward the goals of humanitarians such as Mahatma Gandhi, Eleanor Rossevelt and L. Ron. Hubbard who wrote `Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream.` Our wish is to see human rights made real for everyone.”
